UKERC has published new research, “The UK energy system in 2050”, reporting new scenario projections using the UK MARKAL model. It also compares these projections with earlier work, to draw conclusions where consistent results seem to emerge. If greenhouse gas emission reduction targets are to be met, it shows the scale of the challenge and that the pace of change will need to accelerate markedly. Decarbonisation of the electricity system and wide deployment of energy efficiency technologies are amongst the recommendations.
