DECC has launched a new Energy Efficiency Strategy, setting out the size of the opportunity to boost energy efficiency in the UK. It identifies potential to save 196TWh in 2020 through cost-effective investment. The report considers barriers to uptake of measures and includes new analysis of the factors influencing energy use in homes and businesses. New actions to boost UK energy efficiency include £39m to fund 5 centres examining business and household energy demand; an energy efficiency labelling trial with John Lewis, providing information to consumers on the lifetime running costs of household appliances; and national roll-out of RE:FIT, the Mayor of London’s programme to improve public sector energy efficiency.
