Markets evolution and the whole energy system

Ten years after the UK reformed its electricity market, is it still fit for purpose? We look at lessons learned as the electricity network is transforming to a low-carbon future that must also deliver security and affordability. And we consider how those lessons should be employed as we develop a whole systems approach that integrates electricity more closely with heat and transport.

Debate – Managing Risks and Shocks

In a major debate session we look at the key risks and shocks that we are facing now, in the winter ahead and as we transition away from fossil fuels. We hear from businesses about the energy shocks facing them, and ask what are markets’ roles in managing these?

Market places: Where are the new opportunities?

New markets are emerging with different scales, geographies and members. We look at the new market structures emerging from industrial clusters for energy, carbon, gas and heat, and the local differences. We consider how the opportunities of the hydrogen vector are translating into new local – and potentially global – markets, and leading to other nascent vectors such as ammonia. We consider how cities can drive local markets and we ask what a real consumer-led energy market would look like.
